Beatles Choice set of signatures obtained on the way to Sweden

An Air France London Airport service card, 4 x 6, signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “Beatles, Paul McCartney,” “Ringo Starr,” “George Harrison,” and “John Lennon.” Front of the card is dated October 23, 1963, in another hand. In fine condition, with a few scattered light creases. All the signatures were obtained at London Airport on October 23, 1963, when the band was flying out to Stockholm, Sweden, for their first ever European tour. Earlier in the day the group was at EMI Studios, Abbey Road, London, and had made the final input into their second album With The Beatles, recording the 16th take of ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ and then watching as George Martin and Norman Smith mixed ‘Little Child’ and ‘Hold Me Tight’ into mono. Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison 1974 travelogue

Unique travel diary kept by the young son of drummer Jim Keltner on Harrison's 1974 US tour, apparently done as a school project, 8 x 11, signed inside by many of the musicians, support staff, and visitors during the tour. The top of the first page is signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, “To Eric—Thanks for coming on the tour, George Harrison,” and also signed by Harrison’s touring band members Billy Preston, Tom Scott, Jim Keltner, Willie Weeks, Andy Newmark, Emil Richards, Chuck Findley, Robben Ford, and Jim Horn, with most adding short inscriptions. Another page is signed by six others, including an excellent inscription and signature, “To Eric, with love from the invisible man, John Lennon.” A third page is signed and inscribed in blue felt tip, “To Eric, Ravi Shankar,” with members of Shankar’s band signing throughout the book, including: Katrick Kumar, L. Subramaniam, Viji [Shankar], Harihar Rao, Kumar Shankar, and Alla Rakha. The remaining pages consist of a well-done handwritten account of the tour by Keltner’s son Eric, with three ticket stubs affixed to the first page, and the introduction on the second page, in part: “We went on this tour because George Harrison wanted my dad to play in the band…So George said ‘Take your family with you!’ So we went.” The eight-year old then provides an almost daily summary of the events and cities they visited, adding in clipped newspaper articles, Canadian money, and postcards to enhance his entries. He notes that on December 13, “We were invited to the White House!…George Harrison, Billy Preston and Tom Scott ate lunch with Jack Ford. And then they talked to the President.” On the last show of the tour on December 20, he writes his most exciting entry: “I saw two old friends, John and Julian Lennon. Julian is my age and from England. We went to the last concerts. Everybody on the tour got up on the stage for the last song. And I played the tambourine. I thought the band did ‘Terrific.’” The boy’s teacher has made several comments on the reverse of one of the opening pages. A few loose pages, some red pencil corrections from the teacher, and some scattered toning to some of the pages, otherwise fine condition. The George Harrison–Ravi Shankar 1974 North American Tour was a 45-show concert tour of the United States and Canada during November and December. This adorable travel diary—which is impressively comprehensive and well-done, considering the writer’s age—is one of the most complete records of the tour that exists, and offers a unique behind-the-scenes perspective of life on the road. An exceptional, truly one-of-a-kind piece! Provenance: Christies, November 2013. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.

A copy of The Beatles second 45 rpm EP release of The Beatles Hits, signed on the back of the sleeve in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The signatures were obtained in London circa late 1963/early 1964. The EP was released on September 6, 1963, and features four tracks ‘From Me to You,’ ‘Thank You Girl,’ ‘Please Please Me,’ and ‘Love Me Do.’ After its release the EP climbed to number one in the Record Retailer EP charts, Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient which reads, in part: “I had a friend named Gillian who was working at the BBC. She had some responsibility for the recording of music…It would be about 1964…The Beatles were at the Broadcasting House though it might have been at Abbey Road. Anyway Gillian obtained the autographs as the fab four emerged from the engagement.” Scattered creases, one passing through a portion of Lennon’s signature, scattered toning and soiling, and a tear, creases, and album impression to front of sleeve, otherwise very good condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Over the past five years it has become extremely difficult to find full sets of Beatles autographs on any of the group’s releases making this an incredibly rare and desirable item. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.

RR Auctions Beatles Signed Rare Invitation

An incredibly rare invitation extended to a young woman to appear on the July 11, 1964, ABC Television show Lucky Stars Summer Spin, one page, 7.75 x 10. Typed on ABC Television Limited letterhead, inviting the woman to the studio for noon, with a live broadcast scheduled at 5:50 pm. Signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and in black ballpoint by Paul McCartney. Harrison has added a second signature in black felt tip. Reverse is also signed in pencil by Mike Pender and Paul of the Big 3. Intersecting folds, none affecting any of the Beatles’s signatures, scattered foxing over three of the signatures, a few pin-size areas of paper loss along folds, light wrinkling and handling wear, and Harrison’s felt tip signature fairly light, but still legible, otherwise very good condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the invitation’s recipient and a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Immediately following the Liverpool premier of A Hard Day’s Night, The Beatles headed back to London for their appearance on ABC’s Thank Your Lucky Stars special Summer Spin episode the next day. They arrived at ABC’s Teddington Studio Centre around 1:45 pm to rehearse for the 5:50-6:35 pm live transmission, in which they performed ‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ ‘Long Tall Sally,’ ‘Things We Said Today,’ and ‘You Can’t Do That.’ Customarily shot six days before airing, The Beatles appearance was one of only a handful of the show’s live episodes; when ITV technicians went on strike on July 5th, they were forced to change the original plans to pre-tape at the Alpha Studios in Aston, Birmingham. A fantastically rare item signed by all four members, this is a wonderful addition to any Beatles collection! Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.

Signed on the reverse in black fountain pen, “Paul McCartney,” in blue fountain pen, “John Lennon,” in blue ballpoint, “George Harrison,” and in black ballpoint “Ringo Starr.” In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling to both sides, with a block of toning lightly affecting Lennon’s and Starr’s signatures, a few spots of damp staining, and some creasing to left edge. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient which reads, in part: “We were in the West End, on the scooter and parked in a bay opposite Broadcasting house in Portland Place. We saw standing outside the BBC the four members of the Beatles. A van pulled up and the [sic] loaded equipment into it and then they got into a van and it drove off. We followed on the scooter, and caught the van up and stopped alongside it at some lights in High Holborn. I spoke to Paul McCartney who was leaning out the window with a rose in his mouth. I asked him if they were going to release an LP. Paul McCartney said their first LP called ‘Please Please Me’ was coming out shortly. Before the van moved away I was given by Paul McCartney, a Parlophone post card with the four autographs on the rear…I am reasonably confident that the date I met them would have been 16th March 1963.” Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
