Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison 1974 travelogue

 

Unique travel diary kept by the young son of drummer Jim Keltner on Harrison's 1974 US tour, apparently done as a school project, 8 x 11, signed inside by many of the musicians, support staff, and visitors during the tour. The top of the first page is signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, “To Eric—Thanks for coming on the tour, George Harrison,” and also signed by Harrison’s touring band members Billy Preston, Tom Scott, Jim Keltner, Willie Weeks, Andy Newmark, Emil Richards, Chuck Findley, Robben Ford, and Jim Horn, with most adding short inscriptions. Another page is signed by six others, including an excellent inscription and signature, “To Eric, with love from the invisible man, John Lennon.” A third page is signed and inscribed in blue felt tip, “To Eric, Ravi Shankar,” with members of Shankar’s band signing throughout the book, including: Katrick Kumar, L. Subramaniam, Viji [Shankar], Harihar Rao, Kumar Shankar, and Alla Rakha. The remaining pages consist of a well-done handwritten account of the tour by Keltner’s son Eric, with three ticket stubs affixed to the first page, and the introduction on the second page, in part: “We went on this tour because George Harrison wanted my dad to play in the band…So George said ‘Take your family with you!’ So we went.” The eight-year old then provides an almost daily summary of the events and cities they visited, adding in clipped newspaper articles, Canadian money, and postcards to enhance his entries. He notes that on December 13, “We were invited to the White House!…George Harrison, Billy Preston and Tom Scott ate lunch with Jack Ford. And then they talked to the President.” On the last show of the tour on December 20, he writes his most exciting entry: “I saw two old friends, John and Julian Lennon. Julian is my age and from England. We went to the last concerts. Everybody on the tour got up on the stage for the last song. And I played the tambourine. I thought the band did ‘Terrific.’” The boy’s teacher has made several comments on the reverse of one of the opening pages. A few loose pages, some red pencil corrections from the teacher, and some scattered toning to some of the pages, otherwise fine condition. The George Harrison–Ravi Shankar 1974 North American Tour was a 45-show concert tour of the United States and Canada during November and December. This adorable travel diary—which is impressively comprehensive and well-done, considering the writer’s age—is one of the most complete records of the tour that exists, and offers a unique behind-the-scenes perspective of life on the road. RR Auctions Beatles Signed Rare Invitation

An incredibly rare invitation extended to a young woman to appear on the July 11, 1964, ABC Television show Lucky Stars Summer Spin, one page, 7.75 x 10. Typed on ABC Television Limited letterhead, inviting the woman to the studio for noon, with a live broadcast scheduled at 5:50 pm. Signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and in black ballpoint by Paul McCartney. Harrison has added a second signature in black felt tip. Reverse is also signed in pencil by Mike Pender and Paul of the Big 3. Intersecting folds, none affecting any of the Beatles’s signatures, scattered foxing over three of the signatures, a few pin-size areas of paper loss along folds, light wrinkling and handling wear, and Harrison’s felt tip signature fairly light, but still legible, otherwise very good condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the invitation’s recipient and a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Immediately following the Liverpool premier of A Hard Day’s Night, The Beatles headed back to London for their appearance on ABC’s Thank Your Lucky Stars special Summer Spin episode the next day. They arrived at ABC’s Teddington Studio Centre around 1:45 pm to rehearse for the 5:50-6:35 pm live transmission, in which they performed ‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ ‘Long Tall Sally,’ ‘Things We Said Today,’ and ‘You Can’t Do That.’ Customarily shot six days before airing, The Beatles appearance was one of only a handful of the show’s live episodes; when ITV technicians went on strike on July 5th, they were forced to change the original plans to pre-tape at the Alpha Studios in Aston, Birmingham. RR Autograph Auction Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album signed

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album signed on the front cover in blue felt tip by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, with George signing his first name only. In fine condition, with a few trivial creases along the top border. The record is not included. All three signatures were obtained in person by George Napolitano between 1988 and 1992. Accompanied by full letters of authenticity from Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, Roger Epperson/REAL, Perry Cox, PSA/DNA, and JSA, and a letter of provenance from Napolitano. This album signed by all three is incredibly scarce—especially in such fine condition—and the first of its type that we have offered. While in Harrison’s employ, Galloway will also be allowed to stay in a furnished home, paying his own utilities. Signed on the last page by Harrison, Galloway, George’s brother Harry Harrison, and one other. In fine condition, with some scattered light creases and wrinkles.
