Beloved Danish author (1805–1875) best known for such classic fairy tales as The Ugly Duckling, The Red Shoes, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Exceptional original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by G. E. Hansen of Copenhagen, showing a full-length image of Andersen seated at a small table, a book in his right hand, inscribed on the reverse in Danish to G. Bentley Esq., and signed “Hans Christian Andersen.” A couple creases and surface impressions to top left corner of image, and a few minor creases and light soiling to reverse, with one crease touching middle name of signature, otherwise fine condition.
